Transportation Clerk I (9am-5pm)

SUMMARY: The Transportation Clerk I in the Logistics/Distribution industry is responsible for organizing and maintaining shipments using WMS and Novotran TMS. This role is also responsible for coordinating driver’s appointments, loading, preparing and distributing shipment documentation through the DocuWare system.
 
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
 
  •  Review carrier reports, communicate with carriers via phone or email, and adjust routing as necessary           to optimize shipments.
  •  Sort, reconcile, and verify bills of lading from previous and current shipments for accuracy.
  •  Prepare and organize all necessary documentation for truck loading, while effectively communicating critical information to shipping dock leadership and to the driver that is being loaded.
  •  Retrieve shipment and routing information from the Transportation Management System (TMS) to support both internal teams and external departments by providing accurate and timely information.
  •  Assign and update PRO numbers for shipments and notify carriers when shipments are ready for pickup.
  •  Route shipments through customer portals when required, ensuring compliance with customer guidelines.
  •  Obtain spot quotes from carriers, perform rate comparisons, and prepare a summary for leadership review and approval.
  •  Assist with special projects, process improvements, and departmental initiatives as assigned.
 
ADDITIONAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Front desk coverage and other duties as assigned.

SKILLS REQUIRED: 
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills;
  • PC including Microsoft Office experience;
  • Knowledge of shipping/distribution;
 
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: High school diploma or equivalent, with 1–3 years of experience in a transportation, shipping, or logistics environment.
